Church Planting: A Thousand Decisions and One Giant Step of Faith

Over the past few weeks, I’ve sat down with several church planters—four in the last month alone. And every time, I walk away inspired. There’s something contagious about their hope, their faith, and their willingness to step into the unknown, believing God is writing a new story through their lives and communities.

Church planting is no small task. It’s a whirlwind of vision and spreadsheets, dreams and deadlines. Imagine making 3,000 decisions—each one dependent on something else falling perfectly into place. The amount of trust required is staggering. It’s less about leaning on your own understanding and more about leaning into the Spirit every single day.

What I love most is walking with these pastors through the journey—coaching them through not just branding and websites, but also what it looks like to care for their families, guard their time, and stay grounded in the middle of it all.

I often tell them: you’ll live in the tension between organizational chaos and spiritual triumphs, between setbacks and miracles. One day you’ll feel like you’re spinning your wheels, and the next, you’ll be crying tears of joy over a story of life change you never saw coming. Around every corner is a new relationship, a new challenge, and a new opportunity to draw people closer to Christ.

The whole process feels like taking your hopes and dreams, tossing them into a blender, and praying that somehow God makes something beautiful out of it. And more often than not—He does.

One of my favorite parts of the journey is helping pastors create a communication calendar—a strategy that turns the church from an idea into a movement. We help them think through how to engage their community, how to share their heart, and how to build systems that lead to long-term health.

We start with coffee and a dream—and before long, it’s launch Sunday. The signs are out. The band is warming up. You’re standing in the parking lot, looking down the driveway, wondering, “Will anyone come?” That moment, full of faith and nerves, is the moment you realize: this has never been about what you can do alone. It’s always been about what God can do through your obedience.

I tip my hat to every church planter. You’re stepping out in a way that many dream of but few attempt. And honestly, we could all learn something from your courage.
